I was born in Los Angeles and spent my first three years on this planet in Glendora. Ontario was my home for nearly seven years, until Alta Loma became my town of residence when I was ten. I moved out when I was 19, living in San Dimas, Irvine, Riverside, Rancho Cucamonga and, finally, Upland. My wife and I have been here for somewhere around 3 years.
And now it's time for something completely different.
A month ago I was offered a job as the Director of Technology for the Tamalpais Union High School District. After careful consideration I accepted this position. After working in educational technology for the past 9 years, I had come to a crossroads where I would either break off into private industry or pursue a job in a completely different location. Both possibilities offered the type of change I have been looking for, and it was the latter that ultimately worked out.
The Tamalpais Union High School District is located in Larkspur, California. It is in Marin County, which is just north of San Francisco, across the Golden Gate bridge. It is one of the most beautiful (and expensive) counties in the country, and I will be living and working right in the middle of it. It is close enough to the city that quick trips for food and/or culture are expected, but it is far enough away to feel like another world. This is the type of change that I have been looking for, and it is the type of change that I welcome.
I will miss Southern California. I have lived here all of my life and I will be leaving most of my friends and family. I am sure that the weather will not be as nice. All thing considered, though, I would rather do this now than regret not doing it later.
Besides, being away in a new place will give me an excuse to write on this site more.
